About John Krauland, Jr.
John Krauland, Jr. was a compassionate, loving man whose kindness and positivity touched everyone around him. Tragically, he was taken from us far too soon at just 28 years old on March 14, 2014. Yet, in his short life, John made a lasting impact, always wearing a smile that could light up a room and finding the good in any situation. He was devoted to making sure his family and friends were enjoying life and simply “having fun.”
John’s passion for football began at a young age. He was a three-year varsity letter winner at Knoch High School, proudly leading his team to the playoffs during his senior year. He went on to earn a scholarship and a starting position as an offensive lineman at Slippery Rock University. Even after graduation, John’s love for sports continued as he played in a flag football league and a Sunday softball league with many of his closest friends. Whether on the field, on the golf course, shooting hoops, or spending time with his wife and dog, John was always active and surrounded by those he loved.
John’s faith was an important part of his life. He never missed a Sunday, always bringing his grandmother, Dolly, to church, and soon became deeply involved in his parish. He volunteered as a 7th-grade CCD teacher, served as a Eucharistic minister, and shared his voice as a lector. His dedication to helping others extended to his professional life as well, working as the Loss Control and Safety Coordinator for The Catholic Diocese after earning his degree in Safety and Environmental Management from Slippery Rock University.
The John Krauland, Jr. Memorial Foundation exists to honor these qualities that made John so special. Through scholarships, we aim to help students who reflect the same values John lived by, academic achievement, athletic dedication, and active involvement in their community. Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors from Knoch, Deer Lakes, or Seneca Valley High School who are attending a four-year college or university.
John’s willingness to help others went far beyond the field or classroom. Whether you were family, a friend, or a stranger, John would offer words of encouragement, wisdom, or simply lend a helping hand. In that same spirit, the foundation also provides a Community Assistance Program. Through this program, members of the community can nominate a person or family in need. Each month, the foundation selects a nominee and provides meaningful assistance — ensuring that John’s legacy of kindness and generosity continues to make a difference.
